History of the most important changes in blood Transfusion in the world and Iran                                                                                 
1616: Discovery of blood circulation by William Harvey.

1656: First injection with a hen feather to the empty vesica of an animal by Christopher Verron.

1667: First blood transfusion from animal to human by John Denis the accredited Physician of Luise XIV court.

1675: Blood transfusion was prohibited by the French parliament, Royal association of London Physicians, and the pope because of the side effects caused by injection of infected and incompatible blood.

1900: Discovery of A , B , O and AB blood groups by Land – Echtiner.

1937: Establishment of the first world blood bank in the state of Chicago in the United States.

1945: commencement of blood transfusion in Iran, at some hospitals of Tehran.

1974: Establishment of the Iranian blood Transfusion organization.

1997: Complete elimination of blood replacement system in Tehran province simultaneously beginning the omission replacement system in Iran.

2002: Number of blood donors of Iran blood transfusion organization exceeded 20,000,000.

2003: Execution of CUE (Confidential Unit Exclusion) project

2004: Execution of  a new software called " Iranian blood transfusion technical system " was used for the first time to increase blood safety. This automated system covered all blood donation stages from donor registration till blood distribution.

 2007: Execution of an automated lab device in pretransfusion screening lab for ABO-Rh & ELISA tests done on blood donor samples.
