Donors section
Blood transfusion department of Tehran province is responsible for provision of blood and blood products for more than 170 major hospitals in Tehran and Karaj and given the fact that many patients of other cities are hospitalized for surgeries in Tehran hospitals. The blood needed for these and also Tehran patients are provided by Tehran blood transfusion center. The blood collected in different parts of the province is sent to the central station (Vesal Shirazi St.) and Karaj station (West Golzar) for pretransfusion screening tests and also provision of products. The time lapsed between blood collection and blood transport to the blood products preparation lab should be less than 6 hours (world standard).The donors section includes planning unit and blood collection units.
Planning unit
In order to facilitate the access of blood donors to blood collection centers, the planning unit administers sending mobile blood collection groups to enterprise more than fifty employees and places where inhabitants are eager to contribute to this humanitarian affair upon request from intermediaries of enterprises. Therefore such places agents from quarters, governmental organizations, factories and cultural educational centers can contact the planning unit on 021-88961239 in Tehran and 0261-3507711-3509528 in Karaj for necessary co ordinations.
Conditions for dispatching the mobile blood collection group:
1. Availability of a suitable place for settlement of the blood collection group or the blood collection vehicle.
2. Minimum of 50 persons being volunteers to donate blood.
3. Presence of one or some individuals acting as intermediaries of blood donors in order to make the necessary coordination with blood transfusion organization.
Blood collection units
Each blood collection unit includes a doctor and a number of technicians of blood transfusion affairs who admit and give service to blood donors at blood donation centers.
General terms for blood donation:
1. Regarding the geographical status of diseases and according to the who recommendations for prevention of the spreading of diseases in the world, people of each area should donate blood for their own patients; therefore, we apologize to the dear immigrants and the people of some towns of our country where regional diseases have been detected, unfortunately the blood transfusion department of Tehran province is not authorized to receive blood from these groups of blood donors.
2. Being at least 17 and at most 65 years of age.
3. Have the proper level of hemoglobin.
4. Enjoying complete mental and physical health.
For this reason it is requested from donors to inform the blood transfusion doctor of the following cases in order to make the correct decision.
- Allergies and Heyfever.
- Receiving medications.
- Faint, syncope, epilepsy, and convulsion history.
-Addiction to IV drugs.
- Past surgeries.
- History of tattooing, phlebotomy, and being knifed.
- History of jaundice.
- History of high risk behaviors.
It is worth mentioning that the honesty of donors in answering the medical questions plays an important role in providing a safe and healthy blood supply.
Therefore you are requested to cooperate patiently with us and pay attention to advices from the physician when referring to blood collection centers and help us to provide safe blood.
And please excuse us for being obliged to ask you questions about your private behaviors. Meanwhile, to maintain the safety of blood in regard to the person’s medical records, the blood collection center physician is responsible for accepting or refusing the applicants. About 25 % of Tehran blood donors are deferred for their own health or the safety of blood or its products.
It is noted that some of the volunteers are not dissuaded by the examining physician from blood donation, so the phlebotomy is performed but to maintain the safety of blood recipients, the blood acquired is taken out of the distribution cycle and eliminated.
